Geometry will be offered for high school credit by our new tutor – further information will be available shortly.
There are two other types of courses:
- writing skills courses
- humanities courses (history, literature, government, fine arts)
You can take most courses either as “seminar only” (1/2 credit) – where the only outside assignment is reading – or “with writing tutorial” (1 full credit) – for which students write essays and other shorter, more creative assignments and do related projects.
- All writing skills courses are tutorials.
- All humanities subjects can be taken as either “seminar” or as “tutorial”; however, students must have completed Writing III before they can take any of the humanities courses with the writing tutorial.
- College credit can only be earned by taking the course with the writing tutorial.
Writing III is the foundation and pre-requisite for the high-school-level humanities courses because it covers foundational skills in persuasive writing, logic, and research. Students planning to take it should already be able to write consistently using complete sentences and a series of paragraphs to summarize a narrative (narration) and to explain aspects of a topic (exposition). Ideally, students should also have some familiarity with using basic citations. The course does involve internet research for scholarly sources, so students should be aware, just in general, of how to avoid AI-generated material and find trustworthy information online.
