- Description: This is a college-prep Euclidean Geometry course utilizing a solid textbook, a captivating tutor, and plenty of problem-solving exercises involving lines, angles, circles, congruence, inequalities, parallel lines, quadrilaterals, transformations, area, concurrence theorems, and geometric solids as well as demonstrations of proofs accomplished as concepts build upon each other week after week. Mathematics, though, involves more than simple logic, more than numbers and principles. Consequently, woven throughout the course will be a search for the aesthetics of geometry as evidenced in art, literature, and music. Through the organization of notebooks and the precision of constructions, students will discover structure in geometry. Through deductive reasoning, students will find the unchanging truths of Euclid’s elements demonstrating order in our physical world. Students will look for harmony in the reality surrounding us, particularly in natural areas outside the classroom. Incorporating the senses, interactive activities will allow the student to see and hear, taste and smell, even touch “geometry” in unexpected and delightful ways.
- Assessment and Expectations of Student:
- Students must attend class meetings with minimal absences.
- Students must complete all assigned lessons in the text and turn in homework daily.
- Students will take bi-weekly written tests administered in class at the end of each textbook chapter.
- In December and May, students are required to participate in Defense Day by giving brief presentations and responding to questions from the audience.
- Grade Reporting: Standard grades are reported at the end of each term.
